Frequently Asked Questions

My manuscript contains unique elements that I want my editor to know about prior to making edits. How do I make sure my editor is well informed?

When you submit your manuscript to Lemonglass, fill out the section of the form that asks for your backstory and special instructions. This information guides your editor.

An additional chance to talk shop with your editor comes when you receive your free sample edit. Respond to the editor’s email with any clarifications or additions to your special instructions.

When guiding your editor, you might want to describe your audience, genre, and writing/publishing goals. Also, indicate your manuscript’s unique elements; for example, let us know if you’re working with a particular dialect or stylistic approach. It’s fine if there are sections of the manuscript you don’t want the editor to touch.

Can I see a sample of your work?

Yes. We email clients a free sample edit so they will know what to expect.

Do you edit screenplays?

Yes.

I’d prefer to send my manuscript in sections. Will that be OK?

Yes, you can send your work in sections. Some clients simply break their manuscript into a few parts and make a few separate submissions. Others like to set a schedule (such as one chapter per month, or per week). Tell your editor how you’d like the process to work.

How long will it take to get my manuscript edited?

The timeline depends upon the length of your manuscript and our current backlog. When you submit your project details, an editor will send you a time estimate.

I’m concerned about confidentiality and copyright. Are my written materials safe?

All of our editors and staff sign a confidentiality agreement stating they will not reproduce, give, or show to anyone any material sent by clients for editing purposes. Additionally, the Lemonglass Service Agreement for your project explicitly states we will not share any information regarding the editing contract.

As stated in the Lemonglass Service Agreement, you retain all rights to the manuscript or other written materials submitted for editing. Lemonglass and its employees don’t require credit or acknowledgment on your intellectual property, nor do we make claim to royalties or monies you gain by sale of the manuscript or other written materials (unless you’ve chosen to establish a co-writing/co-authorship arrangement in writing).

What payments types do you accept?

The standard methods of payment are credit card or bank deposit. For these payment types, you’ll receive an invoice from your editor to facilitate the transaction via PayPal or Zelle.

Other payment options are available upon discussion with the editor. Money orders and bank checks are accepted — though we encourage a check delivery method that includes an electronic tracking service (FedEx, USPS Express Mail, UPS, etc.).

Will I be able to talk over the phone about the edits or feedback I’ve received?

Yes, if phone communication is your preference, let your editor know you’d like to schedule a call.

How can I purchase Lemonglass gift certificates?

Use our email address (maindesk@lemonglassedit.com) or the online “Get In Touch” form to send us details, and we’ll send you an invoice. Gift certificates come in any amount and they can be used for any of our services. They are the perfect gift for the writers in your life!

I’d like to see one document with all the info relevant to an editing contract.

Please refer to our Service Agreement.
